There’s nothing better than getting your head stuck in a good book. I have always been a bookworm. I was constantly reading as a child and I think my love for reading stemmed from infant & primary school.
Recently, I have fallen out of love with reading which really upsets me. I studied English for the past three years and I was having to read 3-4 books a week that were on the curriculum so hardly ever my choice. Sometimes I loved the books on the course and sometimes I hated them.
Since finishing University I’ve probably read about 6 books which I am so ashamed of. It sounds stupid but when I loved books and reading as much as I did, I’m just disappointed in myself.
Books, in my opinion are a whole new world and full of so much magic. Your imagination can run wild with a book to the point where it feels like you’re actually stood there seeing it all unfold. When in reality, you’re cosy in bed or on the sofa or perhaps sunning away on a beach somewhere or even on transport. The possibilities of the imagination are endless when it comes to reading. It can totally take you away to somewhere new. I think books are vital in developing the imagination and reading skills. If it wasn’t for reading, I’m not sure how far I would have progressed as a child. Books can be liberating and by allowing the readers to escape their reality and enter the world of the novel can be a wonderful thing.
I want to fall back in love with reading so I’m determined to read all the books on this list by the end of the year – even if it is only 10 books. It’s better than nothing! Here are some books I would love to read this year! Some of these I had to read for my course but I didn’t get to ‘enjoy it’ so they’re back on here!
Here are some books I really want to read this year:
- Jodi Picoult – Small Great Things
- Erin Morgenstern – The Night Circus
- Emma Healey – Elizabeth Is Missing
- Stieg Larsson – Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
- Harper Lee – Go Set A Watchman
- Kathryn Stockett – The Help
- Caitlin Moran – How To Build A Girl
- Caitlin Moran – Moranifesto
- George Orwell – 1984
- Gillian Flynn – Sharp Objects
In time I will do an updated version of this post but these are the books I want to read first. These are the books I am determined to finish! Hopefully I find my love for reading again, wish me luck!
