Possibly Kylie Jenner’s most exclusive collection to date. With just one release and an extra release of just the mini mattes, it was definitely tricky to get your hands on the Valentines Collection. I practically begged Kayne to let me dip into our account for these. It took a little bit of persuading but I was successful!
At first, I wasn’t particularly fussed about the collection until Kylie Jenner announced the mini matte shades. In her other collections – most of the mini mattes I already had in the normal lip kits. I was not about to fork out essentially $50 for something I already had. However, this set really took me by surprise! There’s only one shade in this set that I have which is Posie K and I’m running low on. Perhaps it was fate? – Ironic y’know since it’s the Valentines collection.
This set just really stood out to me, the packaging and shades just screamed “BUY ME!” I just couldn’t resist…
Valentines Collection offered such a wonderful variety of products. With some never before’s – blush and mini eyeshadow duos!
In this set were the following shades: Apricot, Maliboo, High Maintenance, Posie K, Head Over Heels and Mary Jo K.
Mary Jo K and Maliboo are two shades I’ve been wanting to try for a while now but just never got round to buying them. I’ve read that Mary Jo is the perfect red and that Maliboo is stunning for the natural lips but still let’s people know you’re wearing something. Posie K is a gorgeous natural pink which is great for everyday wear. Apricot was the shade I was most unsure about – it’s a super pale orange/pink, I’m not sure whether it actually compliments me? It does however, look gorgeous in the bottle.
High Maintenance is a vibrant pink which slays.
It’s such a pretty shade that will certainly get heads turning! In a good way of course. Head Over Heels was the shade I was the most excited about! I wanted to get this in full size but couldn’t justify getting the mini mattes AND a lip kit. It’s a really pretty light purple/pink. So still in that winter lip area but you could totally rock this in the Spring or on nights out!
I think this is my favourite packaging that Kylie Jenner has done on her collections. I’m Absolutely loving the pink/red look she’s gone for in the Valentines Collection. Not just with the mini mattes but also the diary and other products! One minute the lid’s red, then it’s pink – aaaah… tinted goodness. Another reason why I love the Valentines Collection packaging so much is because I’m a huge lover of pink: incase my Instagram and blog hasn’t given it away already!
I just think that this style and colour choice makes the Valentines collection look so chic and flawless. In fact, it IS my favourite packaging. Everything about it just screams Valentines day, love and happiness! These mini mattes were just made for me and my pink obsession & theme… (kidding but I can dream)
Even Rupert wanted to get in on the fun!
This is also Rupert’s debut on the blog. I wasn’t going to put this picture up but it’s just too cute to pass on the opportunity. He was after the rose petals, which he slowly ate… one by one (don’t even ask, he was loving them for some reason)
This is the part you all probably came to the post for, you’re also probably telling me to shut up and just get to the god damn swatches! Well here you go!
Top to bottom: Apricot, Maliboo, High Maintenance, Posie K, Head Over Heels and Mary Jo K.
I think my most favourite shades have to be Head Over Heels and Maliboo. They’re the shades I’ve reached for the most out of all of them so far!
My poor lips suffered so much damage doing these swatches! If you have any Kylie Cosmetics lip products, you know that once they’re on, they don’t budge. 18 cotton pads later, ALOT of makeup remover and very sore & chapped lips later!
Here’s what they look like on my lips:
See what I mean about Apricot? This also had the weirdest formula out of all of them. It took a really long time to dry, it dried a little bit patchy too I found. If I did the lip puckering or even put my lips together whilst they were drying, the whole product would go weird. It is a gorgeous shade though and I’m going to persist!
For some reason, Head Over Heels has come out really bright on the photos but it’s fairly darker than this in reality. The shade reminds me of Colourpop Cosmetics lippie stix – Flawless. I wore this all day on Sunday and it didn’t budge. Not for any food or drink. I think the colour of this shade is one of my favourites that Kylie Jenner has ever done.
High Maintenance really surprised me. I didn’t think I would like it as much as I do because of the brightness. I tend to steer well clear of the bright vibrant pinks. Personally, I think that bright pink lips can be a dangerous area if you don’t know how to wear it properly – you can either look tacky or classy. Forgive me if I’m wrong but that’s just my opinion on super bright pink lipstick! High Maintenance is also a super pretty shade which is ideal for the Spring!
If you know me, you know how much I love brown lipsticks, I just can’t get enough of them. I think I have about 30 different shades of brown lipsticks! #NoShame. If you’re just starting out on brown shades – this would be a good one for a first time. It is pricey for the full size at $29 dollars and then shipping. But honestly, it’s worth it and I will definitely be getting the full size version of this on the next pay day.
I can see why people love Mary Jo K so much. This shade is simply stunning. I can see why people says it’s a perfect red. Bright, vibrant, red (obviously) it’s just so ideal for any season and I know I’ll be reaching for this a lot more. I wish I got this shade sooner.
Posie K is perfect for everyday wear as I said further up in the post. It’s also a great choice for when you just want that little bit of colour on your lips or if you have really dramatic eye makeup – then this would be good for the lips. Posie K was released last year for Valentines Day so I’m glad it’s made an appearance again this Valentines!
All in all – I am really in love with the mini mattes from the Valentines Collection. Here’s to hoping that Kylie Jenner decides to release them all in full size kits eventually. I will certainly be buying them, going to be gutted when these get empty, that’s for sure!
