Highlighters, everyones new best friend. They can make your makeup pop and give you some serious glow. I think highlighting is a fairly recent thing. It’s been around for a while but in the last couple years it’s really kicked off and become this ultimate goal to have popping highlighter. What better way to talk about that perfect glow than by writing a post on my favourite highlighters?!
Here’s just a small selection of my favourite highlighters – you might want to put your sunglasses on for this… *laughs to self* Also, you’ll have to excuse the kitten scratches all over my arms in the swatch photos… You know what cats/kittens are like!
First up we have the BECCA Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in Moonstone. Now I had a lot of problems getting this highlighter. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that this was initially a Christmas gift from Kayne. Except that it was damaged. It took roughly 2 months to sort out but in all honesty, I’m just glad I finally have this highlighter. I had been eyeing it up for a while and heard some amazing things about BECCA – especially the highlighter. I’m a huge fan of yellow/gold tones for my highlight, which will soon become obvious. They suit me so much better than pink tones.
The general application of Moonstone is pretty good. It glides on beautifully and you can really build up on the glow so if you want subtle or dramatic you have leeway. Moonstone looks really yellow in the packaging but I can assure you that’s not the case! It’s just full of gorgeous shimmering pale golds and silvers *drools*. It hasn’t come out very well in the photos for some reason, I can assure you – it makes your cheek bones POP!
Next is of course, Anastasia Beverly Hills Sundipped Glow Kit. I am in love with this palette. It was like love at first sight. You get four shades in this Glow Kit. I tend to reach more for Summer and Moonstone. I use Tourmaline every now and then but I find that it can sometimes be quite dark on my skin. Bronzed I only ever really wore in Florida or when I had a tan in the summer, so that got barely any use. You can see from the photos just how much I use Summer and Moonstone.
The pigments in this kit are fantastic! They stay on your face all day which is perfect. Nothing worse than having to top up your makeup. Possibly my most favourite highlighting kit of all time, I desperately need to repurchase but I haven’t seen it anywhere.
You all know I’m a sucker for Anastasia Beverly Hills too!
Colourpop Cosmetics have amazing highlighters!
They’re really cheap at $8.00 so that works out at roughly £5.00 a pot – depending on the currency exchange. I have about 6 different Colourpop highlighters now.
Currently, I own two lots of Lunch Money (because it’s bae), Wisp, Stole the Show, Smokin’ Whistles Wisp is rather dark, almost a bronze I would say. It looks great on but definitely only good for me to wear when I have a tan, so it’s more of a summer highlight. Lunch Money is a gorgeous light/warm gold. Stole the Show is pretty pale but it leaves a gorgeous pearly shade on your skin (I think this is slowly becoming my daily go to). Last but not least we have Smokin’ Whistles which is a pale pearl pink with hints of silver. This is my least used out of the Colourpop highlighters and I think it’s mainly down to the pinkness. I’m not sure if I can rock it quite as well.
If you have any Colourpop shadows, blushes, bronzes, highlights etc – you’ll know that it’s the most bizarre formula because it feels so wet… It works so well though. It’s great for the highlighters especially because you can build on the glow easily!
Sleek Makeup Cleopatra Kiss Palette is amaaaaazing! You have four different shades in this palette so you can easily find a shade that suits you. You even get a step by step guide with Cleopatra’s Kiss so you can create the perfect glow! Dynasty and Goddess have lovely golden tones in them. The top two – Sphinx and Delta are quite ‘bronzey’ and I tend to stay away from those shades until summer time. Don’t get me wrong, they are beautiful shades and I do like them, I just don’t feel like I have the confidence to pull them off.
Cleopatras kiss has two creamy shades (Delta and Dynasty) and then two velvet powders (Sphinx and Goddess) so you have plenty of flexibility in this palette. They go on so easily too and they have some great staying power too!
I really recommend this palette. Especially if you’re just delving into the world of highlighting and strobing and you’re a bit unsure of how to do it. Like I said previously, this comes with a step by step guide – this palette will show you the way!
So there you have it! Just a small snippet of some of my favourite highlighters! I own so many, it was quite hard to narrow it down to just a handful! However, some others do include Makeup Revolution, Too Faced Sweet Peach and Benefit Cosmetics!
