This year, I made a promise to myself to start trying different brands rather than sticking to my regular brands. I need to get a bit more daring when it comes to trying new things so I figured this would be the best place to start. I’ve been eyeing up Lime Crime for quite some time but just never got round to it. However, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase my first ever Lime Crime Matte Velvetine Lipsticks and wow, I’m glad I did!
There’s a bit of a bad rep with Lime Crime and the owner of the company (Don’t hold me to that incase I’m wrong) However, I’m not too familiar with it so when people were telling me all about it, I was quite surprised. However, I didn’t let the bad rep put me off these lipsticks because I so desperately wanted them. I think because the bad rep/drama was a few years ago, I found it easier to push it to the side and buy these.
I was torn between so many shades, I was umming and ahhing between five shades all day – I’m pretty sure my Whatsapp group chat got fed up of me asking what shades I should get! In the end, I opted for Teddy Bear and Cashmere. I wanted shades I could wear on a daily basis but that I could also wear out if I wanted. Teddy Bear is a stunning deep berry pink/purple and Cashmere is a sort of pale purple with a hint of grey. Terrible descriptions of them both but we’re gonna roll with it! I’m really into my dark nudes and grey lips at the moment.
The packaging of course, is incredible. I love that they’re in a frosted bottle and that the lid is such an intense red and with those flowers on it… My oh my *drools* This was one of the first things I noticed about Lime Crime when I saw it splashed over Instagram was their amazing eye for detail on their packaging. It’s a yes from me!
Anyway, onto the formula!
The formula is incredible. Honestly. It’s so light weight, and glides on your lips with ease. The formula is incredibly pigmented too which is a bonus, it doesn’t come out patchy! That’s something I’m always concerned about when I buy liquid lipsticks is the application – some come out so patchy, some don’t. It’s a risky game being a lipstick lover. One simple application is enough, no need to layer it on! The brush is relatively easy to use too, it’s quite small and the brush is pretty fine so there’s barely any excess product when you put it on your lips.
Once I put the shades on I discovered that Cashmere was more of a pale brown nude than a pale purple with grey. I’m not sure if this is just how it turned out on my lips or not though. It sort of reminded me of Kylie Cosmetics Maliboo once on. However, Teddy Bear was true to the swatches I saw on the website and I fell in love even more. Don’t get me wrong, I love Cashmere – it’s just a shame that the shade has come out different to the swatches online.
Lime Crime is one of the best formulas I’ve tried!
It doesn’t feel dry at any point on your lips either which is brilliant. There is nothing worth than putting up with drying formulas. It doesn’t feel wet but it also doesn’t feel dry either. Heck, you don’t even know you have lipstick on!
The staying power of Lime Crime lipsticks are also amazing! I wore Cashmere for work a few times since it looks like a brown nude on me. It stayed on pretty good despite all the talking, drinking, eating that I seem to do at work! There’s been a little bit of smudging on the inside of my lips but that’s to be expected through general wear. Everything else stayed on with ease and didn’t surrender easily to micellar water and cleansing products!
Without further delay, here’s the swatches of both Teddy Bear and Cashmere with what they look like on me!
I absolutely love Lime Crime lipsticks and I can’t wait to get more! There’s already have a few shades in my basket. I think Teddy Bear has to be my favourite out of the two. Whilst I do really like Cashmere, I just can’t decide whether it’s too pale for me!
