Everyone knows Joan Collins right? Famous actress, glam icon… I could go on. I only recently discovered that Joan Collins has a beauty brand too called ‘Joan Collins Timeless Beauty’ ! Is there anything this woman can’t do?
I was pretty intrigued about her range, I didn’t really know what to expect. It’s bad of me to say, but I was expecting it to be mostly for the ”older generation” as opposed to suiting all ages. Of course, I totally wrong! I quite like that Joan Collins has catered for all ages in her beauty range too. Every one deserves to feel beautiful and wear makeup – regardless of their age! I
I was very kindly sent some products to try from her range and this review is waaaaay overdue, but as I’ve said 10000 times on various posts and on social media – I’ve not been myself recently. ANYWAY, less moaning, more reviewing!
First, we have the Joan Collins Compact Duo*
Can we just stop and appreciate the packaging for just a minute? It’s so sleek and everything that Dame Joan Collins is – a glamourous lady! I love the fact that it’s gold aswell. To me, it sort of gives the product a ‘status’ if you like. It makes me feel as though the product is going to be really good quality. I mean just look at it! How beautiful is the packaging?! I read online that a lot of the packaging has like a ridge/ribbed texture to it so that it’s easier to grip which is fab if you struggle to grip things.
So this duo is ideal for many reasons such as festivals, travelling and when you’re on the go. You have to pack light for these sort of things so if you are off away and it’s hand luggage only – you’ve got a two in one winner here! I packed this for my camping trip to France in August in order to save room in my makeup bag. The duo, as you can see is a compact powder with a lipstick AND a little mirror inside. 3 in 1!
The powder is a perfect match for me, I mostly wear it to set my concealer . It’s super silky and applies like an absolute dream. The general staying power of the powder is good too. On average I wear this for about 8 hours and it holds up nicely.
if this isn’t one of those perfect A/W shades, then I don’t know what is. I would describe it as a deep berry. It sort of reminds me of a mixup of Bourjois’ Rouge Velvet ‘Berry Formidable’ and ‘Brique-A-Brac’. The lipstick itself is super creamy and it glides on like an absolute dream. Admittedly, it doesn’t last as long as I’d like it too but it’s still pretty good. I think I’m just so used to liquid lipsticks that I expect every single lip product to be that way. The lipstick though is super hydrating on the lips which makes up for the wearability in my opinion. It’s also wonderfully pigmented, it’s definitely one of those high quality lipsticks for pigment.
Joan Collins Timeless Beauty First Base Foundation*
This foundation has really impressed me, from its sleek packaging to the flawless finish. Firstly, the coverage is just wonderful. I love that I can apply as much or as little product as I want to my face. The coverage is so buildable and it feels super light on the skin. It almost feels like you’re not wearing foundation at all! That’s one of my main things when I look for a foundation – I don’t like foundations where it feels and looks dead obvious that I’m wearing foundation.
I’ve also worn the hell out of this throughout August and so far, the first base foundation has not failed me yet. It’s always looked just as good at 8.00pm as it did 12 hours previously.
One niggle I do have about this foundation is that I can only essentially wear it in the summer as the palest shade (warm extra fair) will be too dark for me come winter time. This makes me real sad – the only way I’ll be able to wear this in the colder months is if I get some lightening drops. However, putting this to one side, I just love how good first base is. The foundation is dermatologically tested and ideal for those with sensitive skin.
I did read on the website that the foundation contains ‘Hyaluronic Acid’ which is supposed to ‘moisturise and fill in lines’.
I don’t particularly have lines on my face, apart from the odd one or two on my forehead (I frown waaaay too much – resting bitch face problem) so I haven’t really noticed the effects of this as such. One thing I will say though – some brands tend to ‘crease’ and ‘clog’ up in my frown line areas which I then have to blend out throughout the day whereas I haven’t really needed too with first base. Perhaps, this is a result of the hyaluronic acid and I’m just being a bit stupid? Probably.
All in all,
I’m super impressed with these products. I love the foundation especially – it seriously creates a flawless finish. I may just have to cave and get some lightning drops so I can carry on wearing it! I’ve got my eyes on the fade to perfect concealer. If the foundation is anything to go by, I can just tell that the concealer will be just as good. So I’ll definitely be treating myself to that. Cos y’know… treat yo self and all that.
