It’s that time of the year again, the seasons that a huge majority of bloggers love. Unfortunately, I’m in the minority! One thing I do love about this time of the year however, is of course, the lipsticks!
I am all about the purples, reds, mauves – I love a good dark lip. It’s probably one of the very few things I actually like about autumn/winter. You may have seen my post last year on my go-to shades for A/W 2016. Plus, you can always guarantee that a good berry lip will look AMAZING with a mustard jumper which is a staple in 90% of people’s wardrobes.
This was hard to narrow it down as I have so many lipsticks that I love. BUT, I wanted to include ones that are new, old and classics. In the end, I managed to get it down to 5… How? I’m not sure.
First up, we have Colourpop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip – Notion!
I actually received this as part of the ‘Can You Knot’ bundle for Christmas last year and I can’t seem to find this on their website any more. So I think it’s no longer available for purchase – both as a set and as a single lipstick. This makes me really sad because it’s a stunning shade. If you want to check out my cheeky Colourpop haul – click here! Anyway, it’s definitely the brightest one in the bundle. It’s a deep berry pink and will look amazing with your favourite knitted jumper, boots, parker and scarf. It provides a gorgeous matte finish (duh, it’s matte…) and I don’t really find it drying on the lips to be honest. I do need to make sure I keep my lips moisturised whenever I wear this though because if you have really dry, chapped lips, I wouldn’t recommend you wear this because it will highlight every since chapped part of your lips. So, since I have been using Bubble T Cosmetics lip balm I’ve found my lips to be in a much better condition and this wears really nicely on top. The typical wear time for this shade is roughly 6-8 hours. It is kiss proof – cos y’know – all that kissing you do under the mistletoe… BUT it’s a stunning shade nevertheless and perfect for this time of year.
Colourpop Cosmetics Ultra Satin Lip – Hutch
Again, this is from the ‘Can You Knot’ bundle so no longer available. Again, it makes me really sad. Y u do dis Colourpop?
It’s the perfect dark purple. Perfect for Halloween and this time of year. I would say that this would be a good dupe for Kylie Cosmetics Kourt K, it’s that sort of purple. It’s a satin finish so it feels really creamy and hydrating on your lips. It doesn’t have the best staying power so you will need to reapply this throughout the day. If you’re off out and you want a dramatic lip – I think this would be perfect for that. To be fair, I’d probably wear this going round Tesco because zero shits are given with me!
Jouer Cosmetics – Noisette
So this is definitely the deep brown lipstick choice. In fact, I couldn’t do a A/W post without my my favourite choice of lip colour. I must admit I do like a good pink nude, a bright orange and the deep berry shades but I always crawl back to brown lips. I just LOVE them. So, I got Noisette with my birthday money waaaaay back in April and it was love at first sight! This is my perfect brown. I guess it’s more of an all year lip colour but I am reaching for this so much recently. It had to be included. It’s still passable as a nude IMO – a nude that’s a lil’ bit more bolder. The pigment in the lipstick is amazing and this baby stays on your lips. It doesn’t come off without a fight, that’s for sure. Which reminds me… I need to get some more Jouer lipsticks. They’re so good!
NYX Cosmetics Lingerie – Embellishment
This is definitely one of the cooler lipstick shades of choice in this post. It’s described as a ‘muted purple’ and it’s pretty easy to see why. It’s such an interesting shade IMO and so ideal for anyone who wants to start wearing purple lip colours but don’t necessarily feel brave enough. I love the shade. I have seen so many mixed reviews on this lipstick range and this shade in particular. However, I’m enjoying it so far. Sure, the staying power isn’t the best in the world but it’s pretty good for the price. It does last through drink and food but it will come away a far bit. So a re-application is definitely needed. This does need more than one coat of product but again, that’s not really a problem for me. It’s a gorgeous, silky yet matte finish and feels so nice on your lips (hence why I don’t mind applying more than one coat) It doesn’t dry your lips out at all. 7.5/10 for me – purely because of the staying power.
Bourjois Rouge Velvet – Magni-Fig
This is literally, one of the prettiest shades I’ve come across for A/W. I have raved about the Bourjois Rouge Velvet lipstick range across social media and I absolutely love them. Especially, Magni-Fig. It’s just perfect for this time of the year. A gorgeous plum, practically perfect in every way – cheeky Mary Poppins reference (I’m watching it as I type this) The staying power for this lipstick is out of this world. It’s definitely got one of the best formulas I’ve tried. Nothing will budge it. It takes a lot of makeup remover to get my lips back to their natural colour! It’s also really hydrating on your lips which is ideal for this time of year. So many of us are so prone to dry skin/dry and chapped lips. So it’s a real life saver. Bourjois have definitely done well with this beaut. For the price of just £6.99, you can’t go wrong!
Below are swatches of these lil’ beauties. From top to bottom we have: Colourpop Cosmetics – Notion, Jouer Cosmetics – Noisette, Bourjois – Magni-Fig, Colourpop Cosmetics – Hutch and NYX Cosmetics – Embellishment. You can see from the swatches just how perfect these shades are for A/W. I literally can’t get enough of them!
Despite how much I don’t like this time of year, as I said at the start – I’ll always have a soft spot for the seasonal lip colours. I might just have to do some online shopping now because I’ve got major treat yo self vibes going on now thanks to this post. Oops!
