We’re all guilty of it. We drool over the latest beauty releases and go into a frenzy on launch day. Sometimes though, it’s nice to take a step back from the hype of all the new products. Y’know, just go back to rediscovering old favourites.
Kayne had me under strict spending rules, when we was saving for the wedding we didn’t ever really treat our selves to anything nice. I barely purchased makeup over the course of 5-6 months. Which for me is a lot. This time last year, I was shamefully spending £200+ a month easily on beauty products alone. Most of which I ended up selling (unused of course). So a spending ban/rules were essential for me. With these rules/ban in place and the fact that we couldn’t afford to feed my beauty addiction. It meant that I had to go back to some of my ol’ favourites that were either long forgotten, affordable in price or tucked away at the back of my Alex draws.
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
This is one of the first concealers I ever got, waaaay back in the day when the brand was called Collection 2000. At just under £5, you wouldn’t expect it to be any good but it’s such a wonderful product. The coverage is fab but I have noticed that the longer I have it open for, the quicker it oxidises. It covers my dark circles, my spots and caves out my brows so well. It’s hard not to love this lil beauty. This was sadly tossed aside for my NARS creamy concealer but since I don’t purchase from NARS now, my new love the Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape concealer took my heart. I would say that Collection’s concealer is on par with that. You can see how well loved it is from the lack of writing on the concealer… Oops.
Colourpop Cosmetics Highlighters
Ok, admittedly – it’s a pain in the ass getting these over here, but they’re $8, which depending on the exchange rate can work out at about £5. I swore by these beauties last year and I would only ever wear Colourpop highlighter. However, I got a bit money happy and splashed out on 101 different highlighters (oops, this was probably the reason why Kayne put me on the band) and these were pushed to the back of my draws and I’ve only just rediscovered them. I had forgotten just how pigmented they were. Offering a stunning finish and those gorgeous pearl, gold and champagne finishes. I’m still not over the ‘wet’ sensation of these when you swatch them though!
Lottie London Slay All Day Lip Kits
I purchased these after a huge hype built up by some Youtubers. At first, I was really unsure as I just couldn’t decide whether I actually liked them or not. They just didn’t feel very nice on my lips. However, since I’ve been changing up my skincare routine and actually using a moisturising lip balm on my lips – these have been so much better. They’re actually out on show on my dressing table whereas before they were shoved into my ”unsure/don’t like” draw. The shades I have are beautiful – Fleek and Werk It. They can sometimes dry a lil’ bit patchy so a couple layers may be needed. But, for the price, you can’t really go wrong. They’re definitely a product you have to use ‘right’ if that makes sense? I can’t just slap it on like I would for other brands.
Milani Cosmetics Baked Blush
This is a proper beauty. I thought I lost this in the move (alongside my Charlotte Tilbury Vintage Vamp quad) but I found it tucked away in a box I had shoved in the wardrobe, oops! The CT quad however, was somehow in our old car… Anyway! This creates such a gorgeous and natural rosy finish on your cheeks. I love using this for a ‘quick’ get up and go look so I just have a little bit of colour on my face. This is really pigmented though so only a little bit is needed!
Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
I literally forgot how bloody amazing this palette is. Uhhhhh, it smells amazing – like chocolate *drools*. The colours are beautiful. You can create some really stunning looks with this and it’s one of those palettes where you can totally create a desk to party look with ease. I wore the hell out of this in third year at university. I just can’t fault it to be honest with you. It is on the pricier side but this post isn’t just about affordable products but rediscovering old favourites!
There we have it, some old favourites I’m loving at the moment! I can’t get enough of these and they’re now getting regular loving again from me <3. Moving into my own place has definitely made me appreciate money and makeup more. I’m learning to make do with what I have and just treat my self *ahem* every now and then. Although, as I type this… I have just purchased some makeup. Gotta treat yo self right?
