We’re nearly there now, just two more days of Blogmas! It’s gone so fast. It seemed like an impossible thing to do this year but I’ve nearly done it! *fist pumps* Let me give you a quick run down on how I’m spending Christmas!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. We’re all busy getting ready for the ‘big day’.
Everyones on a maddun getting those last minute gifts, fighting their way through the crowds of people at the supermarkets, having a stand off with Brenda over the last turkey crown, noticing that your Christmas lights aren’t perfectly symmetrical and debating whether to cancel Christmas at your house, manically wrapping gifts with a cheeky glass of something to help you along the way and well… the list just goes on and on.
So amidst the hustle and bustle, you don’t actually have much time to relax and think about what you’re going to do this Christmas or have time to look forward to it for that matter. I know I certainly don’t. The only thing I can think of in December is making it through the gruelling 24 day stint. I don’t get massively excited for Christmas now until it’s 5.00pm on Christmas Eve, when I finish work. Sad really isn’t it? *sigh*
However, since I don’t live at home now, we’ve had to make (most of) our plans for the big day! Before we lived together, it was just an unspoken rule that we did the morning/afternoon with my family and then mid afternoon/evening with Kayne’s family, then stay at Kayne’s on Christmas day night. The day was pretty much half and half.
So, this year…
We’re spending the morning at our own home, then heading off to my Grandparents for Christmas dinner (lunch) because this is something I have always done. Also, my Granddad is really not very well. He’s surprised us, year in, year out. He’s defied the odds for so many years now so of course, I want to see him on Christmas day especially. Even if I’m not five doors down anymore. Same with my Grandma too, you just never know what’s around the corner.
Anyway, less of the deep talk. The Christmas dinner there is always a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Like seriously good. I’ve only ever completed it twice in my whole life. Plus, the whole atmosphere is so lovely, everyone is happy and laughing. Granddad is being a wind up, singing his famous songs ”when I’m calling you” or ”give me the moon light” and telling the same stories we’ve heard before. The rest of us are nurturing our food babies, talking, laughing at Granddad and just enjoying the time we’re spending together.
That’s the plan for the morning/afternoon.
After that, we’re not really sure what we’re going to do, probably go home and snuggle up on the sofa with a Christmas film or go see Kayne’s parents – we haven’t fully decided this yet. But, I am typing this in November. By the time this goes live, there’ll be something sorted, I’m sure!
Boxing Day, we’re going to Kayne’s parents for brunch with all his family which will be lovely to have everyone together. We’re so busy with our own stuff all the time, it’s hard for all of us to get together. Plus, seeing how excited our nephews are will be so good. I can’t wait! FYI, Alfie and Noah are the cutest lil guys ever, I still find it weird to think I’m an auntie sometimes. Then in the afternoon, it’s back to my parents for our annual ‘Boxing Day Games and Drink’ which now that we’re older, just involves food, alcohol, trashy TV and all the games. It’s gonna be so good! Update – since writing this post. My mum has decided that this is now being held in my house *panics*.
Of course, we will be avoiding the sales at all costs. I’ll be shopping it all from the comfort of my own sofa!
After that, we’re just going to spend some major quality time together. We will have roughly two-three weeks off together so it’s going to be absolute bliss. Just me, Kayne, Rupert and Belle. Our first Christmas in our first home together and I couldn’t be more excited.
How will you be spending Christmas? Do you have anything planned or do you just see where the day takes you? Let me know in the comments below!
