We’re now onto day thirteen of Blogmas and this is going super fast. It’s almost time for the big day! Now, it wouldn’t be a blog series if I didn’t dedicate a whole post to lipsticks now would it? I present to you, my statement lips for this festive season!
Last Blogmas, I did a post all about the statement red lips and I enjoyed writing about it last year. So, I wanted to do something similar this year! The great thing about this time of the year, you can go as bold and daring as you want and people won’t bat an eyelid. If you wanted to wear candy cane lips, you totally could. All the rules go out the window when it comes to Christmas.
There would be photos of the product on my lips but alas, the dreaded coldsores have attacked. Hopefully a swatch will be ok for you!
This is such a beautiful shade. It’s a beautiful deep red that is honestly, perfect for a winters night out. Whilst the staying powder for this is amazing and it barely budges once it’s on your lips. It does tend to bleed slightly so lip liner is a must for this. The general application is pretty good though and the wand ensures a smooth application.
Kylie Cosmetics – Mary Jo K
I picked this up as part of the Valentines Collection waaaay back in February and it really is the perfect red. If I was to get any lipstick from Kylie Cosmetics in full size, it would have to be this. I’ve not purchased anything by Kylie in sooo long now! Mary Jo K lasts so well on the lips and it doesn’t leave your lips feeling awful or dry after either. I’ve only used this on very special occasions as it’s a mini and I’m scared of it running out! But… for the Christmas party season, I can make an exception.
Jouer Cosmetics Lip Creme – Rose Gold
If this doesn’t say statement lips, I don’t know what is. It’s a stunning metallic rose gold. Which of course, is oh so blogger. I picked this up with my birthday money waaaaay back in April. I was a bit unsure at first but it really does look so good when it’s on. You can layer this on top of different lipsticks and it just creates such different effects. It isn’t drying on your lips either which is fab for this time of the year, dry lips and winter is the bane of my life I swear. Anyway, once this is on your lips. It will not budge – perfect if you’re having a Christmas party and you don’t want to spend a third of your night reapplying your lipstick!
Kylie Cosmetics – Reign
This was the first metallic lip I ever got. At first, I was unsure of it but the more I wore it, the more I got used to it. I think because it’s metallic, it put me off to begin with. But it’s truly a gorgeous deep red/brown – probably like a copper. The only qualm I have with this is the brush, it seems to be a bit of a dud applicator so I have to be pretty careful when I use it. But, it looks beautiful on and if you want a dark lip with a difference, this is the one.
Bourjois Rouge Velvet – Joli Carmin’ois
If you read my blog regularly or if you follow me on social media, you’ll know that I absolutely adore the Rouge Velvet range. I just think that they’re absolutely fantastic for a high street brand. In my opinion, their product quality is just as good as, if not better than some high end brands! A fiery orange with flecks of red, this lipstick is so bold and perfect – people will gaze at you in absolute awe. The staying power is incredible too.
Bourjois Rouge Velvet – Fuchsia Botte
This is probably the brightest pink shade I have ever owned. I don’t really wear bright pink as I worry that it makes my teeth look yellow even though it doesn’t. It’s just me being paranoid. Now, I know that pink lips are more of a ‘summer’ thing but this could really work for winter too. Especially, if you’re wanting to make a statement. This, paired with some good ol’ falsies, winged liner and subtle eyeshadow will create such a beautiful look. You will look flawless.
These are all perfect to create that statement you want this festive season. Swatches top to bottom: Milani Cosmetics – Amore, Kylie Cosmetics – Mary Jo K, Jouer Cosmetics – Rose Gold, Kylie Cosmetics – Reign, Bourjois – Joli Carmin’ois and Bourjois – Fuschia Botte.
What are your favourite lipsticks for this time of the year? Have you tried any of these? Make sure you check out yesterdays post about my Christmas blog set up!
