Cut Creases are big in the beauty world right now. Like, really big. It’s hard to scroll down your feed now without seeing one cut crease at least. There’s tonnes of tutorials all over the web but they all seem over complicated to me after many disastrous attempts. Here’s my nice and easy way to achieve a perfect cut crease!
If you’re a regular reader on my blog, earlier on in the year you’ll know I did a tutorial on my brows. The brow tutorial post came highly requested and proved extremely popular and you can check that out by clicking here! I decided to give the tutorial posts another try but with a cut crease look this time! It’s so hard to do a cut crease if you don’t know where to begin or the best approach to tackle it. There’s tonnes of different ways to create this look but this is the way that has worked best for me every time!
I have been told in the past that I have slightly hooded lids, only slightly. This tutorial would work well for someone who has slightly hooded/hooded lids because you make your own cut crease.
The products I used to create this look are:
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
- Demure Lashes – Aubrey*
- Soap and Glory Supercat liner in black
- Zoeva Black Box Edition liquid liner in black
- Too Faced Champagne Insurance Eye Primer
- Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation in shade 1.0
The first thing…
What I did first was get my brows on so I knew how far out to blend – I find it much easier that way. I also applied foundation on before. Many people will be like wtf you doing are you crazy? Stop judging me, I just find it easier that way!
I used Raw Sienna to create a base/transition for my cut crease. I just applied this to the upper lid and over my crease line and blended out with the Eco Tools micro blending brush*. This brush is my current go to for applying eyeshadow. It’s so fluffy is incredible for both application and blending out. It’s also so soft, it feels like you’re applying eyeshadow with clouds! You can see how it blends and applies in the photo below!
Now that I have Raw Sienna as my base/transition colour I then applied Love Letter over this. This creates a nice deep pink whilst letting Raw Sienna show through Love Letter. I think this helps intensify the bright pink that is Love Letter. Don’t worry at this stage about the mess of the blending and applying. You have chance to build and correct later.
Next is lining out my crease.
So here is where it starts to get fun/interesting! Taking the shade Red Ochre, I deepen my crease where it sits naturally on my lids. I recommend applying this quite heavily with a small brush – I used a small fluffy Spectrum Collections brush for this. I’m sorry, I don’t have the exact name/number! Then you need to blend this out but lower down into your lid and only a little bit higher than your lid so you get a sort of deep to light look. After possibly giving the worst explanation ever… You can see what I mean by this in the photo below!
So now the crease has been deepened…
It’s time to really carve out the crease! You need a small flat brush for this – I find that these type of brushes work best. You can use either concealer or foundation for this. I’ve found so far that the Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation has been the best for this. Putting a SMALL pump (or 1/2 pump) on the back of your hand. Then apply this to your lids with the small flat brush where your crease sits naturally when your eyes are open! Then just fill in the lids the foundation/concealer like I have. You can see where I went slightly out of my natural line but that is easily fixable. Just stick more product on top and recarve! It take a matter of minutes to solve! When you have carved out your natural crease line, follow it with the brush and keep carving. All the while heading towards the bone of your eye socket.
Now is the part I dread – the winged liner. I suck at this and it takes several attempts for me usually. To create my awfully shaky wing, I used two different liners for this: the Soap and Glory Supercat liner for the main lid and then flicked out where it felt most natural. I then went over with the Zoeva liquid liner because it’s much finer than Soap and Glory. As you can see below, I’m no wing expert and you can see it’s very shaky but hey it’s a start right! The look is almost complete!
Time for lashes!
I was recently sent some falsies by Demure Lashes (cruelty free yay) and I fell in love with them, I decided to do this look purely to show them off! The lashes I used for this look was the Aubrey lashes*. I’ve struggled over the years with false lashes but since experimenting with looks more, I’m finding it so much easier to apply falsies – even if it is with a lot of swearing! These lashes didn’t need cutting down either (which I love because I always screw up that part).
Follow the simple instructions – apply the glue, wait for it to go tacky, apply as close to your natural lash line as possible and voila! Your look is complete!
Below is the finished look!
You can leave it like it is in the first photo, or if you want to make your eyes really pop, apply a dark shade on your lower lash line with a fine brush (I like to use my real technique brush for this). I used Venetian Red for the lower lash line. It looks pretty pink in the palette but when it’s on I find it much darker than red ochre. You can either really blend this out or leave it on your lower lash line for a harsher look. It’s your choice! For a little bit of shimmer I added Vermeer to my tear duct and the arch of my brows to make my eyes pop even more!
And there you have it folks!
My easy step by step guide on how to create a beautiful cut crease look! I believe this way of doing the cut crease is best for those with slightly hooded/hooded lids because you carve out your crease last. I’ve tried at least 6 different tutorials for cut creases and I pretty much gave up all hope of ever being able to do the popular makeup look. I played around and this is what happened! Every time I’ve tried a cut crease this way, it’s been a success thankfully! I know the winged liner needs some practise but we all start somewhere!
