Ok, this post is up later than I hoped but what’re you gonna do? There has been so many amazing releases in 2017 that are now cult favourites, it’s hard to narrow it down. But what products are personally my best in beauty for 2017?
2017 – The year of the brow, the year of warm tone palettes, the year that Urban Decay launched another Naked palette that everyone went gaga for, the year that Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty and made the beauty world her kingdom (in my humble opinion). But, with all this and more in mind, this means it’s been a bad year for our bank balances guys, I don’t even want to think about how much money I’ve spent on beauty products this year. BUT, it’s swings and roundabouts because we may be broke – but hell, we will look good!
Calling all beauty addicts, here’s my best in beauty for 2017!
Would this be any best in beauty post if I didn’t include Anastasia Beverly Hills – Modern Renaissance palette. This baby is something else and I love every thing about it. I love the fact that it’s pink tones (of course) but the pigments in this palette are something else and there’s hardly ever any fall out for me. Now, unfortunately – the same can’t be said for it’s siblings *coughs*. As you’ve all probably seen, some of the reviews have been erm, interesting to say the least. I think, I’ll stick with Modern Renaissance! Not gonna lie, I’ll be gutted when I finally hit pan on this beauty. Here’s a lil look I did with this beauty over the festive season using the Modern Renaissance palette and Diamond Dust from Stila Cosmetics.
One of the most talked about sets this winter – it has to be Stila Cosmetics ‘Written in the Stars’.
I’m very glad that I got my hands on this wonderful set. This was one of the last minute add ons to this post but seriously, it’s so amazing – it deserves to be on this list. My only regret is that I didn’t try the Stila liquid metals eyeshadow sooner. It’s really not hard to see why people love Kitten Karma, it’s just the prettiest rose gold/copper metallic shadow. Diamond Dust and Smoky Storm are also to-die-for. They create such a gorgeous, glowy finish that’s not too over the top or in your face. So, I definitely recommend the liquid metals eyeshadows – any that you can get your hands on.
The best concealer, E.V.E.R.
It has to be Tarte Cosmetics – Shape Tape. The best concealer I’ve ever tried and nothing has come close to it yet. It’s worth every penny and more, trust me. The coverage is just something else – this covers my dark circles and blemishes amazingly well which I was so surprised about since my dark circles are horrific. I ordered this from QVC about £28 and I got the shape tape sponge with it too. So it’s definitely worth checking out QVC first before you fully commit to getting it from Tarte Cosmetics online because y’know – international shipping…
Another favourite from Tarte,
is their Skin Twinkle Highlighting Palette Vol. II, errrrmagod, I love this. This is my favourite highlighter product of 2017 and I’m sure it’ll carry on into 2018. When I hit pan, I’ll be really sad. But, that’ll give me an excuse to get another! admittedly ‘Candlelight’ is too dark for me to wear as a highlighter so I use this as a shadow from time to time if I want a shimmer/metallic eye look. Spotlight is again, slightly dark for me but it’s wearable when I blend it right. The other two Daylight and Starlight are just everything I dream of in a highlighter. I got this from QVC and the Tarte Cosmetics Rainforest of the Sea highlighter fan brush came with it originally! It was such a bargain. But, it doesn’t seem to be on there at the moment so you can check it out here!
Did somebody say Colourpop?
Yes please – this palette. Oh my good Lord. It’s so amazing. I’ve never tried the pressed shadows before from Colourpop Cosmetics until I finally caved and got the Yes Please palette and I am so glad I did. Yes, it is predominantly warm tones but it’s just worth it ok? There’s a couple ‘stand out’ shades in this like the gold and yellow ones but I like them a lot more than I expected to, they surprisingly work well. Colourpop is a brand that I will always pay for, despite the shitty customs and sometimes shipping (if they don’t have any offers on). They’re cruelty free and have vegan friendly products – definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already.
Since Ive been trying to up my skincare regime, (spoiler – I’m crap at it)
Indeed Laboratories were always a brand I was peculiar about. Thankfully, I’ve been able to try both the Nanoblur* and Hydraluron serum* and fell in love with them both! The Nanoblur* can be used with or without makeup. If you want to use it after applying makeup, then you just simply pat/dab it on – DO NOT rub or try to blend like you would a foundation. If you do that, you’ll just smear it. Nanoblur reduces the lines, wrinkles, makes your skin look even and creates a matte finish! I’m nearly out of this so I’m going to have to make an order soon.
The Hydraluron Serum* is amazing for moisture boosting. Honestly, I’ve needed this over winter with how terrible my skins been. The serum is designed to help your skin glow, feel hydrated and evens out your skin tone (which I can vouch for, it does). I tend to pop this on at the night time because of it’s enhanced hydration so my skin can breath freely and soak it all in over a longer period of time.
One of the most raved about brands of 2017 is without a doubt The Ordinary.
It’s super affordable beauty and really high quality. I am truly in love with this brand. I’ve already very recently spoke about their products over Blogmas but I’ll briefly go into them now. The High Adherence Silicone Primer* is so good, it’s definitely the best primer I’ve used and despite it being silicone based, it really doesn’t phase me at all like I thought it would. The silicone primer is the best primer I’ve tried for blurring out my lines, filling in my pores and everything else, it also keeps my makeup in place like a dream.
The Hyaluronic Acid* is pretty much the same as Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron serum. The version by The Ordinary is my preferred one for daytime. This always makes my skin feel so firm and ‘bouncy’ I guess is the best way to describe it? This is also really hydrating plus it’s vegan friendly and cruelty free. Winner, winner! The Salicylic Acid* is so amazing for blemishes. This clears them up so fast – the redness is gone almost instantly and then the blemish disappears within a day or two. But, do not use this religiously every single day, it won’t be good for your skin! I learnt the hard way!
My number one brow product of course, has to be Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade.
I cannot rave about this more if I tried. Literally, no other brow product compares to this for me. I swear by the dip brow pomade. Even though I may try out different products, I’ll always come crawling back to this. I love how this makes my brows look and the fact that I can go for a ‘subtle, natural’ brow or a ‘bold, dramatic’ brow if I want. Plus, a little goes a long way with this, I probably only need to buy this once a year so it’s really good value for money.
I’m a lipstick enthusiast, no doubt about that…
I have far too many than I care to admit but that doesn’t stop me from getting more every other week. #sorrynotsorry. The Bourjois Rouge Velvet: The Lipstick range is one of the best lipsticks I’ve tried. They’re perfect because they’re pigmented, the bullet makes for a super smooth and accurate application. Plus, the formula is really moisturising and not drying on the lips. Rouge Velvet are also high street so they’re really affordable. They’re on par with some of the high end lipsticks that I’ve tried. They come in a gorgeous range of shades, from the classic nudes to flawless reds and the dark purples. Literally, I’m in love with them.
There’s been so many incredible products launched in 2017 (I know many of these were here in 2016 BUT, they became my fave in 2017 so I’m taking it). It’s so hard to narrow it down to just a small handful of items when there’s some absolutely amazing brands out there. I think I managed though! Plus, I can’t forget the likes of Fenty Beauty (which I adore), then there’s the Colourpop Lippie Stix, The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser… I could go on and on.
