I know I’m definitely not the only one who gets proper hyped when it’s holiday time. Obviously, because you’re going on holiday. But, it also means you can treat yo self to some bits from World Duty Free. What’s not to love?
I have this unspoken rule to buy myself at least one thing from World Duty Free whenever I go on holiday. Albeit, it’s not often I go away now. Purely because I can’t bear to leave my cats and my home for a week. Plus, it’s kinda hard to find ‘suitable’ times off for me and Kayne because of the nature of both our works. It ain’t easy y’know. ANYWAY, whenever we do go away, I’m drooling the whole way to the airport. I know there’s gonna be some proper amazing deals and products there for me to get my mitts on.
I remember when we last went to Florida I really wanted a NARS lipstick. After a good 30 minutes at the counter, going back and fourth with swatches. After a little (big) moan from Kayne. I picked up ‘Lava’. Which, funnily enough, I refused to wear whilst I was out there because 1. the heat was something else and would’ve slid off my face and 2. I got a text off mum to say my camera lens had just arrived at home after I purchased the lipstick. So of course, I wanted to get all the photos before I used it.
Anyway, gone on a proper tangent there.
So, World Duty Free have absolutely incredible brands from the mega luxe Jo Malone, Burberry, Chanel to the more ‘highstreet/highend’ Urban Decay, Benefit Cosmetics, Tangle Teezer etc. Literally, most brands are available from World Duty Free. Obviously, it depends on what airport you fly from – but the WDF selection is usually pretty good.
Something I’ve just discovered is that you can actually reserve and collect your order from the terminal you’re flying from. Plus, you don’t have to pay until you get to the physical World Duty Free. How cool is that? They’re obviously going to have fab customer service and great rules about payment etc because flights can get cancelled/amended at any time, so can changes in personal circumstances. If only there was a way to get to World Duty Free without having to go through all the security checks because I would probably live in there, ngl.
I was incredibly bloody lucky, let me tell ya.
Not only did I receive the Lipstick Queen, Hello Sailor Lipstick* I also received the Limited Edition Urban Decay Heavy Metals Metallics Eyeshadow Palette* – *SCREAMS*. I literally lost my shit at work when I opened this, I was flabbergasted.
Let’s start with Lipstick Queen*.
Yes, it does look bloody terrifying. When I opened it, I was just thinking ‘oh crap, don’t panic too much… But how am I going to do this one?’ I was crapping myself incase I didn’t like or if I totally ballsed it up. Originally, I had thought that it was actually blue, I’m not sure why since I know quite a lot of people who have similar Lipstick Queen lipsticks so I should’ve known better really. Oops!
Anyway, this lipstick is designed to create a sheer berry finish.
Kinda like those lipsticks that change to ‘suit your natural lip colour’. The first time I tried it, I was happy but I noticed a couple blue patches on my lips. Thankfully some of my lovely followers said that it could be due to a dry patch and to really moisturise my lips before using Hello Sailor. Taking on board their advice, I moisturised the hell outta my lips, blue patches – Sashay Away.
It starts off on your lips a very obvious blue. Within a couple minutes, you can practically see the colour transforming and creating this natural cool berry tint. It contains Vitamin E to help keep your lips moisturised (but please treat yo lips before hand to avoid blue patches). I’ve seen lots of different swatches of this online and I do think it depends on your skin tone. For me, it’s a cool pinkish berry – very au natural but for others, it’s a deep berry/plum sorta shade. Also, if you have teeth discolouring like me, this is ideal as it makes your teeth look whiter, yaaaaas. It’s so beautiful and ideal if you want the ‘no makeup, makeup look’.
the Urban Decay Heavy Metals Eyeshadow Palette* is a limited edition palette and I don’t think it’s actually available anymore. But, it was priced at £43.00 and Urban Decay do have lots of bright palettes that are sorta similar to this. Before I go any further, I just need to talk about the packaging of this palette. It’s very much unlike any other palette I own. The palette comes in a purple metal (cos y’know, the name) container, that looks SO cool yet sleek at the same time. Then the best bit – the palette slides out… I was flabbergasted when I discovered this as I though I’d actually broken it. Then realised it’s supposed to do that, oops!
There’s 20 shades altogether. From the classic metallic coppers and bronzes to the more bold and daring greens, blues and purples. This palette is ideal for those who love to experiment with their makeup. There’s some people I follow on Insta who I know would just love this! Or even if you just want to create a metallic smokey eye, it’s perfect for that too.
The pigments in the shadows are so amazing.
After just one swatch, you get a tonne of product. The shades I fell in love with in particular are Twisted, Metalhead, Amp, Afterparty, Demo and Bass. The only downside to this palette is the amount of fall out – I did find that I got quite a lot of it. Which is mostly fine but I don’t apply my makeup in the ‘right order’. So I had to redo my concealer/foundation most of the time. But considering how beautiful the shades are, the pigment and general wear of them, I can forgive a bit of fallout. Although, I found that when I applied with my fingers, the fallout was non existent, so perhaps it depends entirely on what you use to apply them with.
This is truly a stunning palette.
You can see just from the photos alone the sheer quality of the shadows. I love how they’ve divided the palette. So on the left is the bolder, brighter, in your face shades and on the right is the copper and warm tones. So no matter your type of preferred eye look, this palette can cater to you! Naturally, I gravitate towards the right hand side but I love the left side all the same. It’s so beautiful. Of course, if you don’t want a full on metallic eye look – you can mix it up with matte shadows from other palettes like I have done. Heavy Metals will also be perfect if you’re into cut creases and halo shadow looks especially.
Here’s some little looks I did with this palette.
Please – don’t judge – I didn’t realise under after taking photos that one of my lashes had actually come away from my lid… I did a big sneeze when the lashes weren’t fully ‘set’. Well, that was the most pointless explanation ever. Also, ignore my brows – I don’t really like editing my face and they’re in major need of some HD brow treatment, so act like they’re flawless pls.
The first look, I used Amp, Metalhead, Spandex and Dive. Amp on the inner corner of my eyes, Metalhead on my lower lash line. A combo of Spandex and Metalhead on my main and outer parts of my lid and voila!
The second look, I used a random combo of shades in all honesty. But, I used Amp on the inner corner again. Then Mullet as a base colour on the life, topped with Amp and Twisted with a little bit of Glory towards the outer edges.
So as you can see from these photos, the shades are bloody beautiful and create the most bold and stunning looks.
Again, perfect for those who have an MUA based Instagram account, those who wear bold looks or someone like me who’s dipping their toes into that part of the beauty world. I can’t stop drooling over the palette.
If you’re lucky enough to be jetting away somewhere, I am very jealous of you. Make sure you check out the fab offers that World Duty Free have. If I can’t treat my self, you guys definitely should. I really recommend checking out Lipstick Queen and Urban Decay. They’re incredible brands. I’ve loved Urban Decay for a long time but I’ve never had the chance to try Lipstick Queen before but I am well impressed. Of course, World Duty Free are basically like their own Empire and they are slaying right now.
