It’s just me, the floating blogger who doesn’t really blog at the minute. But she pops on here every now and then when she feels like it. Trust me, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam palette is definitely worth me coming on here.
Never, did I ever think that any other Anastasia Beverly Hills palette would compare to Modern Renaissance. I think most people who follow me know how much I adore that palette. It’s just the formula, the colours and wearability that make me head over heels for it. Initially, when Soft Glam was sadly leaked (how annoying for the ABH team) I wasn’t really impressed or sold.
There were similarities to Modern Renaissance in terms of colours and name choices. It didn’t seem like a palette I sooo desperately *needed*. Plus, after the many mixed reviews on Subculture, I didn’t want to risk it.
Anyway, after Soft Glam launched, the reviews soon came swooping in.
All good things. Obviously, there was a lot of comparing to the other palettes but especially Modern Renaissance. People were saying how it’s actually so different, the colours and the looks you can create. That the formula reminds them of Modern Renaissance but better, everything. It’s been dubbed the softer version of Modern Renaissance. In the end, I ended up caving (duh, hence this post) and Kayne got me Soft Glam for my birthday.
Like Modern Renaissance and the other eyeshadow palettes, they come in minimal packaging. Which, I kinda love to be honest. You can always spot an Anastasia Beverly Hills palette with ease. The only annoying thing is that the velvet packaging means it gets dirty real quick and stays dirty. So with Anastasia Beverly Hills palettes I keep the original box & everything. I’m not playing around here…
The really good thing about this palette is that you can use it for both day time and night time. It’s not just a one trick pony sorta palette. It’s good for everything: going to the shops, cocktails, shopping, the movies, mad night out – you name it.
I would definitely say that Soft Glam is a ‘sophisticated, low key but still want to make a statement and have your eyes pop whilst still looking ultra glam’ palette.
So, lets move onto the actual shades. Soft Glam comes with 14 shades – a mixture of neutral, bold, shimmer, metallic and matte. The actual formula is really pigmented, almost creamy (definitely not powdery) with hardly any/no fall out at all. The brushes I tend to use with this palette are my Spectrum Collections brushes (which are bae) or EcoTools (also bae). In particular, Spectrum Collections I find have the best blending brushes that are super fluffy and make the eyes just look so beautiful.
I have read a couple reviews where they’ve had issues with the shimmery shades but I’ve found mine to be 100% ok to use and work beautifully. The colours are so easy to build up so if you wanna feel extra then you can. The shades are as follows:
Tempera: Matte beige. Also in Modern Renaissance.
Dusty Rose: The eyeshadow version of the liquid lipstick ‘Dusty Rose’ (which I frickin’ love) a matte mauve.
Glistening: Shimmery gold with pink flecks
Fairy: Shimmery gold – reminds me of some of the shades from Colourpop’s Yes Please. Fairy is one of my faveee.
Orange Soda: A matte pastel peach – a perfect crease colour.
Burnt Orange: Matte deep orange, you might recognise this from Modern Renaissance.
Rose Pink: Rose gold shimmer with hints of a soft pink. (Another fave)
Sienna: I would describe this as a matte terracotta brown.
Sultry: Metallic shadow somewhere between a deep red and chocolate brown.
Rustic: A matte, deep brown. Almost like milk chocolate?
Bronze: The metallic and dramatic version to Fairy IMO. In your face gold with a hint of copper/bronze.
Cyprus Umber: Another one you might recognise from Modern Renaissance. A matte coffee.
Mulberry: Kinda gives it away in the name but a deep matte red.
Noir: A deep matte black.
Out of all these, I think my fave shades have to be Rose Gold, Fairy, Sultry, Cyprus Umber, Burnt Orange, Orange Soda and Dusty Rose.
Basically, half the bloody palette if not the whole thing. The only shade I’m not mad on is Noir but that’s purely because I don’t reach for black in my eyeshadow looks. I have slightly hooded lids so I feel like it makes my eyes look smaller. Yes, there are at least 3 shades in Soft Glam that you also get in Modern Renaissance but I promise you guys – its still worth getting Soft Glam. Even if it’s not for those 3 shades but for the other 11. It was worth the purchase for me regardless because I use Tempera, Burnt Orange and Cyprus Umber alootttt so it’s nice to know I have a backup.
I just like that this palette is for everyone. Even if you’re not a huge makeup wearer, this would be worth the investment. This is because it’s got an amazing balance of neutrals and bolds – browns, pinks, golds, warm and cool tones. You can create a heavy, glam smokey eye or a more natural, pink look. Or, if you just want a pop of colour, Soft Glam can do that for you. It’s not just a seasonal palette, it’s definitely a year round palette I think. So, if you want to dip your toes in Anastasia Beverly Hills then I 100% recommend choosing this palette!
All in all, I can’t fault Soft Glam.
My views have 100% changed since getting Soft Glam. It wasn’t a palette that ‘wow’ed me when it was first released. But as I said at the start, after reading the reviews and seeing how many people said it’s different to any other ABH palette, I was sold. This is now bae and well loved already. If you’re on the fence about this palette, then get it – treat yo self. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed!
