Obviously this was taken the other week because there's no way in hell I would be wearing jeans now 🤣. ⁣

I don't know exactly what it is about this photo because my hair was on day 10 for washing, I have a double chin going on and I HAAAAATE my arms. But, on the flip side - Buddy doesn't care about any of that stuff. He doesn't care if my hair can cook a fry up or if my chins together can make a chime, he loves me for me. 😭💓I mean, look how cute and happy he looks? ⁣

I've been a bit absent on here recently, not really for any massive reason, Father's day kinda took all the life outta me. I just needed some time. Buddy has been super unsettled this week too, not sure if it's a sleep regression, teething, the hot weather or what but during the nights... Wow it's tested us 🤦🏻‍♀️😂⁣

All I know is that Buddy snuggles are the best kinda snuggles 💓

I absolutely love our fireplace now. We don't have the money to do it how I want but since we painted the opposite wall blue, the fireplace just stuck out like a sore thumb and really didn't go with the "vibe". 🥴 The before photo is full of crap because I literally decided there and then I was taking it off the wall and going to change it 🙈

It was really starting to stress me out, so I sent Kayne out to find some matte finish black paint for wood, he came back with a sample pot for a fiver from @therangeuk and it did the whole mantlepiece and there's tonnes ! Then for the actual fireplace, pre lockdown we picked up some spray paint that's actually safe and designed for fireplaces. It was around £8 I think from @boyesstores ✨. ⁣

Day Seventeen - BIRTH ⁣ ⁣ Well... I hated it.

Well... I hated it. I hated giving birth. It was long, stupidly painful, full of sick, a stitched up, mottled vagina and a baby in NICU. ⁣
⁣
I was induced, my contractions were constant. I vomited the whole way through and it wasn't just small amounts of sick, it was exorcist in Scary Movie amount of sick. Every thing I had - medication (which did fuck all by the way), food or drink, came back up. Kayne was my personal water boy, encouraging me in his own lil awkward way. He was an angel 💓 Gas and air and diamorphine were my baes.⁣

Fast forward to early hours Wednesday morning - Buddy was finally born at 3.30am on the 13th March ✨ 13 days over and labour for 26(ish) hours... . Buddy's breathing was off, like way off to a point where the alarm bells were ringing (metaphorically, idk if they have actual alarm bells) and within minutes, he was whisked off up to NICU. Buddy was born with pneumonia but we still to this day, don't know how he contracted it. There were no indications to any distress from him and I had zero symptoms, we don't really know. 🤷🏻‍♀️⁣

Even though we had a really normal and easy pregnancy (take out the family deaths) our labour and birth experience was one that still gives me nightmares. You always see and hear the perfect and happy experiences, you don't really hear about the traumatic ones but I think it's important to talk and share them (when you're ready of course) so that others don't feel alone, I know I did. I'm definitely not ready to do it again any time soon.😅 Ps some of these photos, I've never shared outside of family before because I feel quite vulnerable still. I'll never share the first photo of Buddy because that just feels like a painful reminder of how quickly everything changed. Weaning was always something that terrified me. The fear of choking, allergic reactions, the mess... I hated the thought of it and I always said we will go by what Buddy prefers, whether that's baby led weaning or traditional weaning. But as you can tell, he loves feeding himself 😂 ⁣

We have had a bit of a journey weaning, he loves his grub but sometimes he goes off nearly everything, sometimes he will eat everything in sight, sometimes he will only like certain meals... His current go to is fish fingers, potato waffles and peas. 🙈 When I see all these extravagant meals that other children are eating, I panic and worry I'm doing it wrong but I have to remember 1. I shouldn't care what others are doing 2. As long as Buddy is healthy and enjoying what he's eating, why the hell should I worry? 🤷🏻‍♀️⁣

I'm going to try and catch up with @clairemacblog hashtag challenge 🙈 ⁣
So yesterday's word prompt was struggle. Not gonna lie, I struggled at the start, being a mum. I just lost my Dad at 34 weeks pregnant and my Grandad three months prior to that. Then the next thing I knew, I had given birth to Buddy and he was up in NICU. ⁣

Half of my pregnancy wasn't what I expected, half of my pregnancy was fighting these demons, trying to push away the grief of losing two very important people in my life in a short space of time, trying to keep all my energy focused on keeping Buddy safe. Then when he was born, he wasn't safe. I felt like I had failed. The one good thing I had left, I couldn't even protect? The start of his life wasn't what I had envisioned, you always see and hear the really sweet and happy side to giving birth, going home and everything else. But we didn't get ours, not straight away. ⁣
⁣
I was terrified to love Buddy when he was born, for a good couple months. Don't get me wrong, I loved him but I didn't love him the way I "should've" because I was scared of getting too close, scared to love incase he was taken away too. I know it's an irrational and perhaps illogical way to think but at the time, I physically, emotionally and mentally could not handle the thought of losing someone else.⁣
⁣
I struggled to deal with this new "mum body", I've always had a complicated relationship with my body and to be honest, I'm not quite there yet. The excess mum tum, the bazillion stretch marks, the wider than before hips... I was at the gym pre covid, loving the transformation, loving the body I was slowly changing (for my own personal reasons before anyone starts) and then that came to a standstill - understandably. The gym also did incredible things for my mental health and I could feel the old me coming back. I just can't wait for the gyms to reopen so I can carry on my journey 💓 ⁣

I'm getting better, I still have my bad days and days where I can't stop crying or thinking about my dad, what should've been and my fears start to creep back in but I 100% know that I love Buddy with every inch of my being 💓 #TogetherInMamahood

AD - [GIFTED] Isn't it amazing and yet scary, at how quickly your little one grows up before your very eyes. One minute, they're a newborn, then they're a toddler, then before you know it they'll be grown up and off out into the big world 😭. ⁣

The last 15 months with Buddy have been incredible, seeing him grow, learn and turn into this incredible little boy. He has his own little ways, his loves and dislikes, his personality shines. ⁣

Today's word seems very appropriate. I think we're all learning. Theres alot of resources circulating social media at the moment, how to discuss racism with your children, how to diversify their learning & their toys - there are loads out there. They're really useful and it's made me check myself, recognise my privilege and noted how Buddy really doesn't have that many diverse toys or books. It's a start but I've got some new books on order for him. I'm learning and I promise I will do better.💓 ⁣

The other day, after listening to black voices regarding black out Tuesday, I archived my black square. Not because I don't care but because they explained how it can be counter productive. I listened and I learned. 💓 ⁣

It's important for me, as a mother to do the best I can, to show Buddy the rights and wrongs in life. To guide him and show him the way, Kayne and I are his life teachers and he will follow us by example. We both agreed (not that this was a discussion where we disagreed, we both knew it was our responsibility even prior to him being born) to be open with him about racism, sexism, homophobia and more to help him learn as he grows up. I just hope that we do him proud. We're learning 💓⁣
